Avaya will sell SpectraLink's Wireless Telephone Systems; SpectraLink to develop phone supporting Avaya's IP telephony protocol

BOULDER, Colo. -- SpectraLink Corporation (NASDAQ: SLNK), the leading manufacturer and supplier of workplace wireless telephone systems, today announced that it has reached an agreement with Avaya (NYSE: AV), a leading provider of voice and data networks and applications for businesses, to OEM SpectraLink's Wireless Telephone Systems for traditional voice and Internet Protocol (IP) telephony. Both products will be branded as Avaya Wireless Telephone Solutions and sold through Avaya's direct and indirect channels. Additionally, SpectraLink and Avaya have entered into a technology sharing agreement to integrate the SpectraLink products with Avaya's Enterprise-Class Internet Protocol Solutions (ECLIPS) platforms. The integrated systems will allow Avaya's customers to add wireless telephones to their existing telephony platforms and infrastructure. According to the agreement, SpectraLink will manufacture Avaya-branded versions of its industry leading 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz mSpectraLink's Wireless Telephones Systems designed for enterprise applications. SpectraLink's 900 MHz Wireless Telephone System utilizes a dedicated network of Base Stations and can support more than 3,000 users throughout a large corporate facility or campus. The 2.4 GHz Wireless IP Telephones are based on the IEEE 802.11b wireless networking standard and designed specifically for enterprise IP telephony applications using a converged wireless infrastructure. By utilizing Avaya Wireless LAN infrastructure and Enterprise Class Internet Protocol Solutions (ECLIPS), network managers can reap the economic and productivity benefit from converging both wireless data and voice applications over the same network, while giving mobile workers the capabilities of advanced VoIP desk sets in a lightweight, durable handset.
