Former Voxel COO on moving from the 'Wild West days' to sustainable data centers

The SSIA's Zachary Smith explains hardware interoperability, sustainability and energy use challenges within data centers. He also discusses interest in expanding the use of liquid cooling in data centers and the challenges to deploying that technology.

Zachary Smith, former chairperson and current board member of the Sustainable and Scalable Infrastructure Alliance (SSIA) at the Linux Foundation, joins the podcast to discuss how the SSIA is working toward more a sustainable data center infrastructure. 

As former COO of Voxel, VP at Internap and having held a number of positions at Equinix, Smith has first-hand experienced of the "Wild West days of data center, hosting and the Internet as it were," he says.

Currently Smith is working with the SSIA to assist organizations in deploying more sustainable technologies within the data center. 

He explains hardware interoperability, sustainability and energy use challenges within data centers. He also discusses interest in expanding the use of liquid cooling in data centers and the challenges to deploying that technology.
