Arun Netravali to Address Supercomm

ARLINGTON, Va. — Arun Netravali, president of Bell Labs, and chief technology officer and chief network architecture for Lucent Technologies, will address industry professionals at the International Engineering Consortium (IEC) Information Industry luncheon presentation at SUPERCOMM 2001, on Wednesday, June 6, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., event organizers today announced.

Netravali, responsible for research and development across all of Lucent, is a pioneer in the field of digital technology and led the research and development of Bell Labs' high-definition television (HDTV) technology.

Netravali is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and has received numerous awards and honors for his scientific and management achievements. In 1991, IEEE awarded Netravali the most prestigious medal for communications, the Alexander Graham Bell medal. In 2001, he will be awarded the most prestigious medal for signal processing, the IEEE Jack Kilby Medal. Netravali also received an Emmy award from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in 1994 for his work on HDTV.In 1991, he was inducted into the United States National Academy of Engineering, in which America's most accomplished engineers provide the leadership and expertise for numerous projects that are initiated by the President.

Prior to joining Bell Labs in 1972, Dr. Netravali worked on problems relating to filtering, guidance and control of space shuttles for NASA. He has authored more than 170 technical papers, co-authored three books and holds more than 70 patents in the areas of computer networks, human interfaces to machines, picture processing and digital television.
