SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Iometrix, a leading test lab in the data communications industry, today announced the launch of its industry reference test bed for VoIP on the wireless network. The Iometrix test bed provides equipment vendors, enterprises, residential users and industry reviewers with a fair method of assessing and comparing the performance of wireless voice equipment and solutions in an objective, repeatable manner.

"With the emergence of VoWLAN technologies, it is imperative for users to have a fair methodology of comparing how well it will work on their networks," said wireless network architect Don Berry. "The Iometrix test bed allows a highly accurate and repeatable assessment of VoWLAN products, from handsets to the network infrastructure, as they come to market. This approach affords tremendous benefits to not only the manufacturers of VoWLAN products, but to the industry as a whole."

"VoWLAN is brimming with promise, but it is new technology and difficult to test," said Doug Dineley, executive editor of InfoWorld's Test Center. "This test bed is just what users need to assess VoWLAN's maturity and to compare the different product offerings out in the market. We are eager to begin evaluating these solutions based on the Iometrix test suite."

"Our centralized approach to building, securing and managing wireless LANs is mandated on meeting the highest performance standards possible," said Vijay Raman, director of technical marketing at Aruba Networks. "With the Iometrix test bed we can accurately determine and address the real challenges of delivering toll-quality voice over wireless LANs."

The Iometrix industry reference test bed is built on wireless test leader Azimuth Systems' W-Series 802.11 test platform. Azimuth released their first Wi-Fi tests in 2003, and announced the addition of voice over IP test capabilities to the system in December 2004. The Azimuth W-Series allows wireless products such as voice handsets and infrastructure to be precisely tested with repeatable results under various motion and roaming scenarios. The W-Series has rapidly become the test platform of choice at all of the industry's major silicon and system players.
