HONG KONG -- Motorola’s (NYSE: MOT) Home & Networks Mobility business, a leader in TD-LTE technology, announced today that Motorola has been selected by China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC) as the primary TD-LTE solution partner to provide indoor coverage for all major pavilions at the World Expo 2010 Shanghai China, and will also integrate and launch the world’s first TD-LTE USB dongle that supports both 2.3GHz and 2.6GHz, helping operators to build a healthy TD-LTE ecosystem.

The World Expo, held from May 1 to Oct. 31, 2010 in Shanghai, will be a key arena for a highly visible and sustained live public TD-LTE demonstration. This event has attracted great attention from telecom equipment manufacturers, both domestic and foreign. Motorola’s specialized expertise in OFDM Radio Frequency (RF) technology and class-leading TD-LTE solution performance will be leveraged to address the challenges typical of an indoor environment and provide very high sector throughput capable of streaming high-quality video applications and optimized indoor coverage for a true mobile broadband experience throughout the exhibition.

After months of rigorous evaluation, Motorola was selected for its superiority in TD-LTE in areas such as enhanced spectrum efficiency and higher download throughput. During the tests, Motorola also showcased a peak throughput of 112 megabits per second (Mbps), being the only vendor able to achieve theoretical maximum performance in 20MHz TD-LTE.

“Following the successful drive demonstration at ITU in Geneva, we’re very excited to work closely again with CMCC in bringing an TD-LTE experience to the World Expo 2010 Shanghai China," said Dr. Mohammad Akhtar, vice president and general manager for the Wireless Networks division of Motorola’s Home & Networks Mobility business in Asia Pacific. “Motorola has demonstrated its long-term commitment to LTE and is making strides toward TD-LTE commercialization and globalization. We are building on our successive demonstration of our expertise with a number of significant advancements, ranging from the industry’s first over-the-air LTE demonstration in 700MHz spectrum last year to the inspiring news we’re announcing today. The selection by CMCC is a testament to Motorola’s continuous efforts in expanding the LTE ecosystem and once again demonstrates the maturity of our TD-LTE solution.”

At the World Expo 2010 Motorola will deploy an LTE network to provide indoor coverage in all CMCC selected pavilions. Motorola’s LTE network will serve as the primary source of broadband connectivity in those locations, as well as providing backup networks for other vendors’ TD-LTE systems.
