LONDON -- Interoute, owner and operator of Europe's most advanced and densely connected network, today announced that it will expand its Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs) in Europe into Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Dusseldorf, Geneva, Hamburg, Munich, Nice, Rotterdam and Stuttgart. Continuing its investment in network infrastructure against the backdrop of a depressed investment environment, Interoute is responded to strong customer demand and network bottlenecks in these cities.

With over 450 route kilometres and over 35,000 cable kilometres already in place, Interoute already operates MANs in London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Madrid, Milan, Zurich and Vienna with a further ‘collector’ ring around Rome. The addition of MANs in these 10 cities will make Interoute the best-connected European MAN operator, enabling it to continue delivering outstanding customer service from building to building across Europe.

“The development of further Metropolitan Area services is pivotal to Interoute’s strategy of becoming the most advanced and densely connected European network,” stated Jim Kinsella, executive chairman of Interoute. “Since we control the network, Interoute has the flexibility to expand, develop and break-out from its network to meet customer demand. We are in a unique position to be able to offer truly competitive pricing without compromising quality of service. We will continue to explore opportunities for expansion and growth.”

While dark fibre is available on Interoute’s MANs, managed SDH services ranging from E-1 to STM-16, protected and unprotected, are on offer with 2.5GB wavelengths. Ethernet services are in development and targeted for launch in Q2 2003 offering 10/100Mb and 1Gb point-to-point and point-to-multipoint circuits.
