Nokia Siemens Networks signs €21M next-generation network IMS contract with Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom

ESPOO, Finland and TAIPEI -- Nokia Siemens Networks has sealed a deal with Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan’s largest telecommunications operator, for its Next Generation Network IMS (NGN IMS). This is the first contract award from Chunghwa for its five-year NGN plan. Nokia Siemens Networks’ expertise will help Chunghwa succeed in the Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) market and be the first operator in Asia-Pacific to introduce IMS-based Voice over IP (VoIP).

Nokia Siemens Networks will deliver to Chunghwa infrastructure and services as part of its IMS Core solution, and will also provide its consumers and business customers VoIP and fixed softswitching solutions. These will let Chunghwa to be the first operator in Asia-Pacific to introduce IMS-based VoIP services. Deliveries will start in December.

Nokia Siemens Networks’ industry-leading FMC solutions provide operators with maximum results by utilizing operators’ existing assets. Chunghwa is both the largest mobile and fixed operator in Taiwan, and aims to work ahead of the market trend by setting a new standard in the telecommunications industry. With Nokia Siemens Networks’ IMS solution, Chunghwa will be able to roll out a wide variety of new and compelling services to subscribers in a cost-effective way. Chunghwa is already using the Nokia Siemens Networks’ 3G, fixed network, and legacy VoIP solutions. The FMC solution will be deployed turnkey, including network implementation and system integration services and warranty for a two year period to ensure the smooth migration. In addition, Chunghwa’s technical staff will get domestic and overseas competence development trainings.
