PARIS -- Ekinops, a leading optical transport provider for service providers and enterprises, announced today that it now offers a full suite of Fibre Channel storage area networking (SAN) solutions and, in a separate announcement, these solutions have been certified as Brocade Data Center Ready.

The solutions from Ekinops, known for its next generation dynamic multi-reach, long-haul, regional, and metro transport capabilities, offer a number of advantages over standard SAN solutions. In addition to providing the most commonly used standard SAN Service types and rates (1G, 2G, 4G, and 10G) today (8G following soon), Ekinops leverages the unique capabilities provided by the Ekinops 360 platform to provide differentiating advantages to service providers.

Among those advantages are ring-based add/drop multiplexing of SAN services, allowing wavelength sharing across multiple sites; DynaMux® dynamic multiplexing capability to handle any protocol mix over a wavelength or any service type; single-fiber transport capability; Fibre Channel encryption; and legacy infrastructure interoperability, so SAN services can be transported not only over WDM wavelengths, but also over an existing SONET/SDH/Ethernet transport infrastructure.

As noted in the announcement on Brocade Data Center Ready certification, the Ekinops 360 and its associated products (1G, 2G, 4G, and 10G SAN Services) are compatible with the Brocade-based Storage Area Networking infrastructure.

“In recent years, the need to protect companies’ most valuable asset, their data, has accelerated the deployment of redundant data centers,” said Rob Adams, Vice President of Global Marketing and Product Line Management for Ekinops. “These companies need Fibre Channel solutions that can scale to meet their needs, transporting huge amounts of data reliably and economically to and from secure storage sites. Combining standard Fibre Channel transport with the advanced cost-saving features of the Ekinops 360 platform brings this balance of economy and scale to our customers.”
