REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- Openwave Mobility, a software innovator enabling operators to manage and monetize mobile data, today announced that SaskTel, Canada’s leading full-service communications provider, has successfully deployed the company’s Smart User Repository(SUR) on its network in order to unify and simplify management of its subscriber data.

The Saskatchewan-based operator selected the SUR from a range of suppliers because it needed a robust solution to manage increasing network traffic while minimizing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of its network as SaskTel has seen increased user demand after the launch of its LTE network last year. Openwave Mobility’s SUR appealed to SaskTel because it is NFV-enabled, making it a future-proof solution that is flexible, cost-effective, feature rich and proven. The SUR has been deployed in over 100 operator networks worldwide including the world’s largest deployment of a user data repository. Customer satisfaction and meeting customer demand was top-of-mind for SaskTel when choosing SUR, and with this solution, the operator is leading the way to ensuring customer experience and increasing capacity for subscribers.

SUR gives operators high speed and low latency access to subscriber data consolidated into a central repository that can be accessed by any external application. No other industry solution can match the performance of SUR, which offers over 100,000 read, notification and 50,000 write operations per second with the smallest hardware footprint in the industry. SUR is also highly scalable – it has been tested for up to 500 million subscribers for millisecond latency – and has continuously operated with “5-9’s” (99.999 percent) efficiency over many years at customer locations. With its proven ability to scale quickly and to meet customer demand for enhanced wireless services, SUR was the obvious choice to support SaskTel’s current LTE initiative and expected future network growth.
