P&T Luxembourg orders UMTS network infrastructure from Siemens Mobile

MUNICH -- The position of the Siemens Information and Communication Mobile Group (Siemens mobile) as the leading UMTS supplier has yet again been confirmed: P&T Luxembourg, the operator of the leading Luxembourg mobile network LUXGSM, has placed an order with Siemens mobile for the delivery of UMTS technology. Siemens mobile will be the sole provider for the 3rd generation (3G) mobile network in Luxembourg. A framework agreement running into 2007 has been signed to this effect. Siemens mobile is to supply and install all the necessary components of a complete 3G mobile network for P&T Luxembourg. This includes switching equipment for circuit and packet-based voice and data networks as well as the necessary transmitting and receiving units for UMTS – the Node Bs. 3G mobile technology allows mobile operators to provide their customers with broadband data services, such as fast mobile internet access and moving image transfers. Siemens mobile has been the sole provider of GSM and GPRS mobile technology and intelligent network services to P&T Luxembourg since 1992.
